In February 2022, Amnesy International published “Israel’s Apartheid Against Palestinians, a Look Into Decades of Oppression and Dominance.”
Laws, policies and practices which are intended to maintain a cruel system of control over Palestinians, have left them fragmented geographically and politically, frequently impoverished, and in a constant state of fear and insecurity.
Apartheid is a violation of public international law, a grave violation of internationally protected human rights, and a crime against humanity under international criminal law.
The term “apartheid” was originally used to refer to a political system in South Africa which explicitly enforced racial segregation, and the domination and oppression of one racial group by another. It has since been adopted by the international community to condemn and criminalize such systems and practices wherever they occur in the world.
It’s not like I consider Amnesty International to be an unquestionable authority, it’s just that there really isn’t much to question thanks to Benjamin Netanyahu making it perfectly clear in case anyone had any questions.
Israeli actress and TV host Rotem Sela wrote on Instagram:
“What is the problem with the Arabs??? Dear god, there are also Arab citizens in this country. When the hell will someone in this government convey to the public that Israel is a state of all its citizens and that all people were created equal, and that even the Arabs and the Druze and the LGBTs and — shock — the leftists are human.”
Did you catch that reference to the Constitution of the United States? “All people are created equal.”
Netanyahu replied to Sela:
Israel is not a state of all its citizens. According to the nation-state law we passed, Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people — and not anyone else.
Any questions?
Enter Ron DeSantis, on Israel’s payroll, who as of last night is using some of the most shameful langage that a Presidential candidate has ever used in the history of American politics.
DeSantis: I’ve been very clear: The U.S. should not be absorbing any Gaza refugees. Neighboring Arab nations should open their borders and absorb them. Every Republican presidential candidate should follow suit.
DeSantis: As President, the number of people I will bring in from Gaza is zero.
If DeSantis had been consistent with a war refugee policy, that’s one thing. He is not. DeSantis has been arranging free flights for Jews to Florida.
Moody: Thanks to @GovRonDeSantis’s decisive action, Floridians who want to be evacuated from Israel will have access to chartered flights for free. If you need help, please visit http://FloridaDisaster.org/Israel
DeSantis: We are getting ready to welcome hundreds of people who were stuck in Israel back to the United States of America.
American Presidents have all had a pro-Israel policy since President Truman recognized Israel in 1948. They’ve also all at least been careful to preserve the mirage of equal rights and the rights of Palestinians to be treated as human beings, not “refugees.” Not this guy. It’s bad enough to be on Israel’s payroll, the majority of American politicians are, but Ron DeSantis is challenging and insulting the principles of Freedom and Equality that the United States is founded on with his bias and hatred towards the two unequal ethnic classes in Israeli law and Florida politics.
