FDA Reverses Narrative on Ivermectin for COVID
Pharmacies should fill Prescriptions, Take as Prescribed
In June, Drs. Robert L. Apter, Mary Talley Bowden, and Paul E. Marik sued the FDA over their smear campaign against Ivermectin and the Doctors who prescribed it. I present to the Jury the infamous “FDA Horse Tweet.”
The FDA said “You Should Not Use Ivermectin to Treat or Prevent COVID-19. Using the Drug ivermectin to treat COVID-19 can be dangerous or even lethal. The FDA has not approved the drug for that purpose.”
Isaac Belfer, representing the FDA in the lawsuit, said it was all just informal social chatting. It didn’t have any power in law. The news to me is that the FDA really changed their tune in their language towards Ivermectin. This transcript of Mr. Belfer was provided by Dr. Bowden yesterday in her blog post: The FDA is not your doctor. Dr. Bowden also gave an interview to Emily Miller regarding this lawsuit.
Isaac Belfer: “FDA made several public statements on social media and on its website written in informal conversational language warning the public about certain risks of using ivermectin products to treat COVID-19. These statements included non-binding recommendations to consumers who could purchase animal-use ivermectin over the counter not to take ivermectin to treat COVID-19, but the statements did not say that doctors could not prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID-19 or that consumers could not take ivermectin for that purpose. Instead, they said that, "If your healthcare provider writes you an ivermectin prescription, fill it through a legitimate source such as a pharmacy and take it exactly as prescribed."
It seems to me like that is a complete reversal in position from the FDA. They went from “The FDA has not approved the drug for that purpose” to "If your healthcare provider writes you an ivermectin prescription, fill it through a legitimate source such as a pharmacy and take it exactly as prescribed.. ”
So congratulations are in order for the Plaintiffs who forced the FDA to back down at least to some extent on their crusade against Ivermectin.
The FDA is trying to have the suit dismissed on technical grounds, but it sounds like the FDA has at least given up the fight to demonize Ivermectin. Now it’s time for the Pharmacies to admit that they were wrong and fill Ivermectin prescriptions. Dr. Bowden told Emily Miller that Pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, HEB, Kroger, and Walmart were still refusing to fill Ivermectin prescriptions.
On a related note, the community trials of Ivermectin and Lactoferrin for Cancer and enlarged prostate are using AmEx Pharma in Florida to fill Ivermectin prescriptions. I haven’t heard of any problems with AmEx. The identify of the patients and the doctors issuing Ivermectin prescriptions are protected under HIPAA in the study. They are accepting both Doctors and patients to the study.

Hey Charles, I like the points you are making about the FDA's backing down, but I want to let you know that there is wording in this Substack contribution that needs a good "2nd Pass" Edit for your article to be seen as professionally written. I'm not speaking of grammar or misspellings...Read it over again, and I think you'll see what I mean. I am glad, though, that the FDA is backing down, and thanks for sharing that. Best wishes.
Great - thanks for the info & update!
