The First Hearing on JFK

I viewed the April 1, 2025 House Oversight Committee's Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets hearing pertaining to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy for the first time last night, which is available on CSPAN at this link.

The hearing featured Oliver Stone, Jefferson Morley, James DiEugenio, and John Davisson.

Everybody knows Oliver Stone, who wrote and directed the film JFK. I wasn’t impressed with him. Don’t get me wrong, Stone’s a good story teller. He’s pleasant and charming to listen to. He had a folksy, absent-minded demeanor which really reminded me of Ronald Reagan. It’s just that, as his critics pointed out in Israel’s Second 9/11, Oliver pushes a “convenient half-truth” narrative that only the CIA was involved in JFK’s assassination, but not Mossad.

Jefferson Morley is a serious, straight-laced reporter, extremely accurate and informed, who maintains high-level contacts with the CIA. Morley worked for WaPo from 1992-2007, then became national editorial director at the Center for Independent Media in 2007. It’s not a secret that the Washington Post has always been a press outlet for the CIA, but Morley is old-school Washington Post, not the new disinformation/propaganda rag that it has turned into under Jeff Bezos. Morley always refers to what is in evidence and exactly what conclusions can be supported by evidence. Clearly more evidence is needed in this investigation.

James DiEugenio is the opposite of Morley in demeanor. He’s willing to talk at length about any aspect of the assassination. He turned into the go-to guy for any questions about details.

John Davisson spoke about the danger of how the National Security Archives had needlessly released social security numbers in the declassication of JFK files.

Not much new ground was broken in this hearing, but you can see which way the investigation is likely to head next. For the most part, it was a rehash of everyone’s doubts that Lee Harvey Oswald could possibly have acted alone, if he fired a shot at all. I don’t think anyone in the room believed Oswald acted alone. There was a lot of talk about fabricating evidence with bullets and the gun.

Maybe establishing what didn’t happen is where the investigation has to start. I just don’t like it though, given today’s circumstances Presently we have 100% of reporters other than myself proving what didn’t happen with COVID-19, while completely ignoring all the family members of the victims screaming bloody murder that their family members were killed in hospitals. No matter how obvious the truth is, they just won’t speak about it. I want to get right down to what did happen. Proving what didn’t happen isn’t Justice. Every second that murderers are free is an injustice.

The witnesses didn’t discuss at all any of the other likely shooters, including Frank Sturgis, other members of Operation 40, John Connally, and perhaps even George Bush at the Book Depository.

What they did stumble get into, without explicitly stating it, was an apparent plot to frame Lee Harvey Oswald for the assassination of JFK. George Bush, who was at the Book Depository, called the FBI to tip them that Lee Harvey Oswald was the likely shooter. Testimony on April 1 2025 focused on the role of James Angelton, the CIA Chief of Counterintelligence, however.

The most dramatic moment in the hearing was when Mr. Morley presented into evidence 198 pages of declassified documents on Lee Harvey Oswald. Morley said the recently declassified documents proved that these 198 pages were sitting on James Angelton’s desk a week before JFK was assassinated.

I HAVE A COPY HERE OF THE CIA'S PRE-ASSASSINATION FILE ON LEE HARVEY OSWALD. I AM SUBMITTING IT FOR THE RECORD. THE DECLASSIFIED OSWALD FILE RUNS TO 198 PAGES. IN THE FALL OF 1963, IN NOVEMBER, THE FILE WAS HELD IN THE OFFICE OF JAMES ANGLETON COUNTERINTELLIGENCE CHIEF AT CIA HEADQUARTERS IN LANGLEY, VIRGINIA…

I STARTED BY LOOKING AT NINE DECLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS ABOUT MR. ANGLETON. HE WAS THE MAN THAT COMPILED OF THE OSWALD FILE. WHEN I CAME TO A LONG, SECRET TRANSCRIPT OF ANGLETON'S TESTIMONY TO THE HOUSE SELECT COMMITTEE ON ASSASSINATIONS.

IN 1978, MY RESERVATIONS ABOUT PASSING JUDGMENT ON RESPONSIBILITY VANISHED. ONE NEWLY DECLASSIFIED PASSAGE SHOWED THAT ANGLETON HAD LIED UNDER OATH ABOUT HIS SURVEILLANCE OF OSWALD'S CORRESPONDENCE WHILE HE LIVED IN THE SOVIET UNION FROM 1959-1962. AND THAT FOR ME THAT WAS A TIPPING POINT. THE TRANSCRIPT THAT CIA WITHHELD FROM PUBLIC VIEW FOR HALF A CENTURY CONFIRMED A DISTURBING FACT. JAMES ANGLETON IS THE THIRD SENIOR CIA OFFICER KNOWN TO HAVE LIED UNDER OATH ABOUT WHAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THE ALLEGED ASSASSIN OSWALD BEFORE JFK WAS KILLED.

THE FIRST WAS A DEPUTY DIRECTOR RICHARD HELMS. HE LIED TO THE WARREN COMMISSION IN MAY, 1964, WHEN HE SAID UNDER OATH THE CIA HAD, QUOTE, ONLY "MINIMAL" INFORMATION ABOUT OSWALD BEFORE JFK WAS KILLED. 198 PAGES OF INFORMATION CANNOT BE TRUTHFULLY DESCRIBED AS MINIMAL.

THE SECOND CIA OFFICER THAT LIED WAS GEORGE JOANNIDES, WAS GEORGE CHIEF OF THE MIAMI BRANCH STATION IN 1963. HIS AGENCY, TOP-SECRET AMSPEL? PROGRAM, GENERATED PROPAGANDA ABOUT OSWALD'S ACTIVITIES BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE PRESIDENT WAS KILLED. 15 YEARS LATER IN 1978 THE CIA INSERTED JOANNIDES INTO THE HOUSE JFK INVESTIGATION WHERE HE BLOCKED ANY INVESTIGATION OF CONTACT BETWEEN OSWALD AND HIS AMSPEL AGENTS. OBSTRUCTING CONGRESS CANNOT BE CONSIDERED EVIDENCE OF INCOMPETENCE.

AND THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE IN SUMMARY. ONE FALSE STATEMENT MIGHT BE INCOMPETENCE. A SECOND FALSE STATEMENT MIGHT BE CYA FOR THE FIRST FALSE STATEMENT, BUT THREE FALSE STATEMENTS BY CIA OFFICERS ABOUT KENNEDY'S ACCUSED KILLER IS A PATTERN. IT’S A PATTERN OF MISCONDUCT. IT’S A PATTERN OF MALFEASANCE.

IF THREE POLICE OFFICERS LIE ABOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF A HOMICIDE DEFENDANT, THAT CANNOT BE CONSIDERED EXCULPATORY EVIDENCE. TO THE CONTRARY, IT SHOWS GUILTY KNOWLEDGE AND CRIMINAL CULPABILITY. IT IS, IN A WORD, INCRIMINATING.

THE NEW FACT PATTERN LEADS TO A NEW CONCLUSION. WE KNOW NOW WHAT ARE THEY KNEW ABOUT OSWALD AND WHEN THEY KNEW IT. WE KNOW NOW RICHARD HELMS, JAMES ANGLETON AND GEORGE JOANNIDES WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR OR COMPLICIT IN THE DEATH OF THE PRESIDENT EITHER BY CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE OR COVERT ACTION.

MY RECOMMENDATION TO THE TASK FORCE ARE, ONE, SECURE AND RELEASE THE PERSONNEL FILE OF GEORGE JOANNIDES, AND TWO, ASK THE CIA TO PROVIDE A PUBLIC STATEMENT ANSWERING THE QUESTION: WHY DID THESE THREE MEN LIE TO JFK INVESTIGATORS? THE ANSWERS WILL FULFILL THE TASK FORCE'S GOAL, THE PRESIDENT’S GOAL, AND THE PEOPLE'S GOAL OF COMPLETE AND FULL JFK DISCLOSURE. THANK YOU.

The above transcript was originally taken from C-SPAN, but I had to make many corrections to their transcript. C-SPAN consistently removed the words “Oath” and “Lied” from the transcript. C-SPAN turned the phrase “lied under oath” into “light undergrowth,” made other obviously-intentional spelling errors, and completely removed segments of some testimony.

Luna questioned Morley if he could prove that the surveillance documents on Lee Harvey Oswald were sitting on James Angelton’s desk.

REPRESENATIVE LUNA: “MR. MORLEY, WHY DO YOU SAY THE OSWALD FILE WAS SITTING ON THE DESK OF JAMES ANGLETON WEEK BEFORE THE ASSASSINATION? CAN YOU REALLY PROVE THAT?

MORLEY: “YES, I CAN. IN THE OSWALD FILE ON PAGE 254 AND ON PAGE 275 YOU SEE A ROUTING SLIPS ON TWO FBI REPORTS ABOUT OSWALD. ON NOVEMBER 15, 1960 THREE AND NOVEMBER 14, 1963, YOU SEE THE INITIALS J.A.R. ON THE ROUTING SLIP. THAT STANDS JANE ATHERTON ROMAN, THE LIAISON OFFICER FOR MR. ANGLETON. SO WHEN SHE SIGNED FOR THOSE DOCUMENTS, WE HAVE PROOF POSITIVE THAT THEY WERE ON MR. ANGLETON'S DESK.”

Technically, James Angelton, Chief of CIA Counterintelligence from 1954 to 1975, was CIA. The reality is that Angelton was Mossad and held this position in the CIA. Jewish News Syndicate says of Angelton:

“James Jesus Angleton, was born in 1917 in Boise, Idaho, and served in the CIA for more than 30 years, since its inception in 1947. Maintaining the rank of counter-intelligence chief for more than two decades, Angleton was a widely respected figure in the world intelligence community.Angleton’s connection with Israel began early in his career, when he was given the responsibility to lead the CIA’s secret relationship with the Mossad and Shin Bet, Israel’s main intelligence agencies.”

Even the CIA has documents on the relationship between Angleton and Mossad, full of their usual spelling errors and hyphens: MOSSAD-CIA TIES LEGACY OF CASEY AND ANGLETON

“Both men were great friends of Is- rael. Mr. Angleton, who died of cancer May 11 at age 69, almost single-handedly ran the Israeli account" at the CIA unW 1974. when he was forced out by a new CIA director, William Colby. During his many years on the job, Mr. Angleton was instru- mental in dramatically strengthening U.S.- Israeli intelligence cooperation in a host of areas. His legacy continues despite the very serious setback suffered during the Jonathan Jay Pollard spy scandal. Mr. Angleton's counterparts at the Mos- sad. Israel's external intelligence service, were deeply disappointed when Mr. Angle? ton retired, and suspected that Mr. Angle- ton's extraordinarily close connection to the Mossad was one reason Mr. Colby wanted him out. But even after retiring, Mr. Angleton retained his personal ties to some of Israel's best intelligence agents. They often visited him at his suburban Vir- ginia home and dined with him at local Chinese restaurants. Like Mr. Angleton, Mr. Casey, who died May 6 at age 73, was a frequent-though secret-visitor to Israel. Mr. Casey in the '80s and Mr. Angleton in the '505, '60s and '70$ would often travel there to meet the head of the Mossad. to exchange information and to plan covert operations. There was an incredible degree of mutual trust, built on unique personal relationships that had been established and proven over time.”

CIA: James Angleton: Master Spy Hunter

“By May 1949, he became a senior leader in the Office of Special Operations. This job required Angleton to call on some of the contacts he made after the war. Angleton’s relationships with Israel’s Mossad and Shin Bet agencies became especially important during his time working the Israeli desk and throughout his career at the Agency.”

“In 1954, Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) Allen Dulles asked Angleton to become head of the Counterintelligence Staff. Angleton remained in this position for the rest of his career at the Agency.”

Congressman Robert Garcia devoted his line of questioning in an effort to establish that there was “no direct evidence” linking the CIA to the assassination of JFK.

REPRESENATIVE GARCIA TO MORLEY: “BUT YOU HAVE SAID THAT THERE IS NO DIRECT EVIDENCE AS OF TODAY THAT THE CIA COMMITTED THE ASSASSINATION, IS THAT CORRECT?”

MORLEY: “I WOULD SAY THE FACT PATTERN THAT IS EMERGED IN THE LAST MONTH SHOWS CULPABILITY OR COMPLICITY IN THE PRESIDENT’S DEATH.”

REPRESENATIVE GARCIA: “BUT NO DIRECT EVIDENCE, IS THAT CORRECT SIR?”

MORLEY: “WE HAVE VERY DIRECT EVIDENCE OF THE CIA SURVEILLANCE OF OSWALD.”

REPRESENTATIVE GARCIA: “NO, I’M NOT ASKING ABOUT THAT. I AGREE WITH YOU SIR. I MEAN DIRECT EVIDENCE THAT THE CIA WAS CONNECTED TO THE ASSASSINATION.”

MORLEY: “ALL OF THESE EVENTS CONNECT THE CIA TO THE ASSASSINATION.”

REPRESENTATIVE GARCIA: “I UNDERSTAND THIS. I’M JUST TELLING YOU MY INTERPRETATION OF WHAT’S BEEN PRESENTED. I HAVE NOT SEEN DIRECT EVIDENCE. I'M NOT SAYING, BY THE WAY, THAT THE CIA OR THE FBI HAVEN’T BEEN INVOLVED IN A VARIETY OF COVERING UP IN THE PAST. WE KNOW THAT TO BE TRUE. BUT I JUST WANT TO BE SURE THAT I’M VERY CLEAR, THAT I HAVE NOT SEEN DIRECT EVIDENCE YET.”

Represenative Robert Garcia’s political career has been heavily backed by Israel.

“In the 2022 election, Garcia became one of the first Democrats to receive support from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s (AIPAC) United Democracy Project Super PAC, which spent over $500,000 opposing his challenger, Cristina Garcia. He also received backing from the Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI) during his 2022 primary, and from 2023 to 2024, Garcia garnered $10,700 in contributions from AIPAC.”

Representative Luna told Fox News on March 29 2025 that NBC News is known to possess a video which allegedly shows Lee Harvey Oswald near the limousine, which would mean that he could not have been a shooter in the Book Depository.

At the April 1 2025 hearing, Representative Luna said that her Task Force would send a letter to NBC News asking them to provide the video.

MR. OSWALD, WITH MY LAST QUESTIONS WITH YOU TO WRAP UP THIS HEARING, WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THAT THE TASK FORCE MAKE A COPY, A CLEAR COPY?

Brace yourselves for a potential plot twist here. There’s good reason to believe that someone was impersonating Lee Harvey Oswald. From the Mary Ferrell Foundation:

Oliver Stone told the Task Force that he had seen the video, but he couldn’t be sure that it was actually Lee Harvey Oswald.

CERTAINLY IT WOULD BE VERY INTERESTING. MR. DEUGENI AND I SAW OSWALD, A POTENTIAL OSWALD, WATCHING THE MOTORCADE GO BY, WHICH MEANS THAT HE WAS DOWNSTAIRS AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING. AND THAT WOULD BE VERY INTERESTING TO SEE. WE COULDN'T SAY FOR SURE THAT WAS OSWALD, BUT IT IS A MAN WHO LOOKS LIKE HIM. I THINK IT WOULD BE A VERY GOOD IDEA FOR THE TASK SUBPOENA NBC WHICH HAS THE ORIGINAL FILM. THEY HAVE THE ORIGINAL FILM. THEY HAVE REFUSED TWICE. AND THE TASK FORCE COULD EASILY GET THAT AND THE AMERICAN PUBLIC SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO JUDGE FOR ITSELF WHO WAS STANDING THERE.
