I realize that this question can only be answered by studying the genomic sequence, but I want to establish what basis I have for suspicion that SARS1 was manmade. Of course, it is all circumstantial.
I've said before that I believe that EcoHealth has been spreading viruses all over the world. I still believe that. Peter Daszak was collaborating with China before the SARS1 outbreak in 2003. Many of these viruses appear in hindsight to have been modified by man in some manner. I'm not sure if SARS1 was modified. Russia said it was at the time. I am sure it was deliberately released in China.
I've included some facts on the Anthrax release in the United States that led to the massive increase in US biological research. SARS1 served the same purpose as Anthrax for greatly expanding research budgets. Ian Lipkin, closely associated with Peter Daszak, set up China's version of a CDC after SARS1. The Wuhan Institute of Virology came later.
Previous to the SARS1 outbreak, Ralph Baric had applied for a patent for a method to modify coronaviruses in some manner. The rest is timeline with original source references for scientists.
Approximately June 5, 2001. Peter Daszak begins a "collaboration" with China.
Daszak's Biographical Sketch in a grant states Daszk's "collaboration" with China at a "high level" for "12 years" previous to the date June 5, 2013. Daszak said he has a "proven capacity to conduct disease surveillance in humans and wildlife in the markets where SARS emerged, and where we have collaborated at a high level for 12 years."
September 18, 2001. First Anthrax attack in the United States.
Anthrax is released from Fort Detrick (according to the FBI).
April 19, 2002. Ralph Baric applies for Coronavirus Patent 7,279,327 B2 .
October 16, 2002. Post-Anthrax US biolabs expansion:
Two of the nation's top military and civilian medical research institutes unveiled plans yesterday to work together on a huge expansion of high-security laboratories at Fort Detrick to devise better defenses against bioterrorism and emerging diseases. .. Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, director of NIAID, said the rapid expansion is critical if the country is to be defended against terrorism. UCLA.edu
November 2002. SARS 1 begins in China.
2003. Ian Lipkin tells China everything they need to know about SARS1 and helped them expand their biolabs.
Columbia.edu: At the height of the SARS outbreak in 2003, Lipkin was invited by senior Chinese scientists and officials to assess the state of the epidemic, identify gaps in science, and develop a strategy for containing the virus and curtailing infections and deaths. Once the outbreak was contained, Lipkin helped develop the institutional infrastructure to ensure China would have the resources to detect and more rapidly respond to emerging infectious threats, in part through building the Institut Pasteur in Shanghai, new national Centers for Disease Control in Beijing, and the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health.
April 3, 2003. Russia says SARS1 was manmade.
On April 3, the Russian Interfax-AVN news service quoted Sergei Kolesnikov, a member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and a State Duma lawmaker, as saying: “The propagation of the atypical pneumonia [SARS] may well be caused by a leak of a combat virus grown in Asian bacteriological weapons labs.” Later, on April 12, Kolesnikov told a conference in the city of Irkutsk that the virus was a mixture of measles and mumps–one that could not occur naturally. “We can only get that in a laboratory,” he was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency. And he repeated his suspicion of an “accidental leak.” Jamestown Foundation.
April 17, 2003. CDC doesn’t disagree that SARS1 was manmade.
the director of the U.S. Center for Disease Control, Dr. Julie Gerberding, stated that the genome of the SARS virus “didn’t look like much of any of the viruses we already had in our reference strain collection.” Jamestown Foundation.
June 2003. Ralph Baric tests his SARS cloning methods at Fort Detrick.
UNC.edu. Baric was attempting to create an infectious clone of the urbani strain of the SARS coronavirus. By July he had successfully tested — at the Army’s top bio-level three labs in Maryland — his cloning approach, which could lead to a SARS vaccine and less of the deadly disease.
“It is nice to be positioned to respond to a potentially important human problem,” Baric says. His SARS clone will allow other researchers around the world to produce other mutated SARS coronaviruses in an attempt to find one that the human body could tolerate enough to produce antibodies.

Was SARS1 manmade as well?
OMG there is no way to stop them.
